Abstract

The rapid depletion of fossil fuel resources and environmental concern has given awareness on generation of renewable energy resources. Among the various renewable resources, wind energy seems to be promising solution to provide reliable power supply with improved system efficiency. As wind turbine output is proportional to the cube of wind speed, the wind turbine generator output fluctuates due to wind speed variation. This study investigates the influences of a new pitch controller & governor control system model on frequency of power system, when variable load has been considered. It is observed that system frequency can be maintained in acceptable level by using newly designed pitch controller & governor control system when several interconnected synchronous generators (SGs) are operated in different governor control modes with high wind power penetration, when the total capacity of SGs is considered as 100 MVA. Real wind speed data have been considered for this study. PSCAD/EMTDC software is used for simulation analyses.
