Abstract

The article presents the problem of determining the routes of vehicles in the transport of dangerous materials in the context of minimizing the probability of a road accident with a serious degree of damage to the car, i.e. serious accidents. The author's model taking into account the minimization of the probability of accidents in the transportation of dangerous goods is presented. The case study was based on research conducted for a transport network for a region located in the Mazowieckie Province in central-eastern Poland. It is worth noting that the probability of an accident is determined on the basis of theoretical distributions determined from data measured at particular sections of the road network. The adjustment of the empirical distribution to the theoretical one was performed using the STATISTICA programme version 13.3 from StatSoft PL. The ant and genetic algorithm were used to determine the routes of dangerous goods transportation. The effectiveness of these heuristic algorithms in determining the dangerous goods transportation route characterized by the minimum probability of accident was verified by Dijkstra's algorithm. The case study and its results provide valuable insights into the feasibility of using these algorithms to solve complex problems for dangerous cargo transportation.
