Abstract

The number of spinal infections has been increasing in developed countries as an increase of aged or immunosuppressed patients. The first-line treatment for spinal infections is administration of antibiotics. However, some patients are irresponsive to initial antibiotic treatment because of their immunosuppressed or poor general conditions. For these patients, major spinal surgery often relates to postsurgical complications. We have reported that posterolateral endoscopic debridement and irrigation (PLEDI)is useful and effective in detecting causative organisms and treating spinal infections.
