Abstract

Mechanical circulatory support with implantable left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) has become common in the treatment of patients with advanced heart failure. Though full median sternotomy is standard, improved technology and reduced device sizes facilitate minimally invasive options for LVAD implantation that potentially offer improved outcomes and quicker recovery for patients.
