Abstract

Approaches are demonstrated for calculating the unavailability of a minimal cut set consisting of multiple components for the situation where the component failures are not detectable until they all occur. This situation occurs when an integral test is only performed on a redundant system and individual component failures are not detectable. The minimal cut set unavailabity is shown to behave essentially like a single component unavailability, resulting in extremely significant impacts on system unavailability. An example evaluation of the scram discharge volume system shows the adverse effects when this situation occurs.
