Abstract

The photoproduction of pions on nucleons is studied in the framework of the algebra of currents and the partially conserved axial-vector current, modified in the presence of electromagnetic interactions. We derive the Kroll-Ruderman theorem, theq o/M (ratio of the pion c.m. system energy to the nucleon mass) correction to thes-wave and theP-wave (Klein) theorem, according to which theP-wave production is given near threshold by the Born approximation computed with the actual meson-nucleon coupling constant and magnetic moment.
