Abstract

Social workers are ideally placed for the secondary prevention of alcohol misuse because of their involvement in outpatient departments and public welfare settings. If social workers are to incorporate addiction work into their existing duties however, they will need brief intervention methods that can be offered as part of a more comprehensive casework plan. This paper looks at some promising developments in the area of minimal and self-help methods for use within community-based health and welfare agencies.
