Abstract

Objective: A minilaparotomy is loosely defined as a laparotomy measuring between 4 and 6 centimeters. Minilaparotomy for benign gynecologic surgery was first described as an alternative to laparoscopic surgery in 2004. Compared to laparoscopic myomectomy, which requires advanced laparoscopic surgical skills, minilaparotomy myomectomy can be completed with relative ease and does not rely on access to endoscopic tools. In comparison to a traditional abdominal myomectomy, minilaparotomy has a shorter recovery time, less postoperative pain, and improved cosmetic outcomes, with comparable blood loss and operative time. The objective is to illustrate the steps of a minilaparotomy as a surgical technique for abdominal myomectomy.
