Abstract

A miniaturized probe-fed right-handed circularly polarized (RHCP) microstrip patch antenna is presented to cover Beidou navigation satellite system (BDS) B3 (1268.52 MHz) band. High permittivity dielectric substrate is used together with inserted slits to minimize the antenna size down to 40 mm × 40 mm, implying an aperture of only λ/6 × λ/6 at the BDS B3 band. Quadrature phase feeding is employed to achieve RHCP radiation. Because of its compact size, the proposed antenna can be adopted within a small BDS antenna array. Details of the experimental results compared with simulated results are presented and discussed.
