Abstract

A miniaturized polymer spot size expander was proposed and fabricated using UV-curable resin on the end face of a high numerical aperture fiber for a preliminary test. The spot size was expanded from the original 3.2 µm to 11.47 µm at a wavelength of 1.55 µm. In addition, the −3 dB tolerance of the coupling efficiency along the vertical optical axis was ±4.3 µm.
