Abstract

This paper reviews the new small NFC antenna integrated under the bezel of the hybrid-covered tablet. The challenge was to reduce the NFC antenna size to 8mm × 20mm × 1.85mm without trading off the usability. If the NFC antenna size is getting smaller with full-metal rear cover, the NFC detection area gets smaller which could cause the degradation of the usability. The NFC detection area of the new small antenna was improved by changing the rear cover material around the antenna. Two types of new small antennas were designed and evaluated in the hybrid-covered tablet.
