Abstract

AbstractThe morphology of an anionic emulsifier/long chain fatty alcohol complex and its change during the formation process were studied. The main factors affecting the morphology, such as various types of anionic emulsifiers and fatty alcohols, their molar ratios and the addition of styrene, were investigated. It was discovered that the rod‐like particles of the complex had a length of 0.1 ‐0‐2 μm and diameter of 0.01‐0.02 μm. A model of a rod‐like particle or molecular aggregate was proposed. Both water‐soluble and oil‐soluble initiators were used to study the kinetics of styrene mini‐emulsion polymerization and polystyrene latex size characteristics.
