Abstract

A preliminary report is given on the mineralogy of three fragments of lunar rock 12013, 10. In both light and dark areas crystals of plagioclase, alkali feldspar, ilmenite, quartz and other minerals are encrusted with a sugary coating of quartz. This coating also contains dispersed opaque fine particles and small crystallites of SiC, brasses and ZnO. Two larger crystals of whitlockite have been identified along with the commoner minerals. Plagioclase has compositions in the bytownite region, and probably deviates from the low structural state. Clinopyroxenes show sub-microscopic exsolution, as do orthopyroxenes.
