Abstract

This work presents the results of mineralogical characterization carried out on samples obtained from massive (“colonnade”) and columnar jointed basalt (“entablature”) located in the northern portion of the Paraná basin, more precisely, in lava-front associated outcrops of some quarries of São Paulo State, Brazil. Besides some traditional material test methods, alternative tests such as the methylene blue adsorption, abrasion pH and conductivity were carried out. The joint analysis of this information assisted in material qualification, providing a comparative analysis between the “Colonnade” and “Entablature” relative to its use as aggregate for civil construction purposes.
