Abstract

A specialization within the established graduate program in the Mining, Petroleum, and Geological Engineering Department will be offered at the University of Missouri‐Rolla starting in the fall. Designed to emphasize the prevention and control of water pollution, it will prepare mineral engineering personnel to plan, develop, and manage environmental protection and control programs of the mining and petroleum industries.According to Don L. Warner, Director of the mineral industries' environmental program within the department, this specialization has been developed to fill the need for mining, petroleum, and geological engineers to guide the environmental work of mining and oil companies and state and federal regulatory agencies. ‘The program,’ he says, ‘is the first of its type in the nation.’
