Abstract

Few studies of mindfulness and meditation with adolescent populations were published prior to the year 2000, and many of these early studies took place in school settings. Since that time, a burgeoning literature base on the use of mindfulness practices and meditation programs for adolescents in educational settings has emerged. There are now several standardized and unique school-based mindfulness and meditation programs that are offered for adolescents. This chapter offers information on these divergent programs, including universal, targeted, and intensive programs and practices with an emphasis on those supported by research. A case example highlights application of a mindfulness intervention for a high school student.
