Abstract

ABSTRACT Life prior to the pandemic has been overwhelming. The persistent need to hustle. The persistent desire for more. The persistent feeling that you are not enough. Overproduction and overindulgence. Lost connections in real life and new-found relationships over social media. Picture perfect lives behind screens. Escalated societal pressure until the world was hit by a contagious virus that turned around everything. This was the first time the modern world had to experience complete shutdown and isolation giving the much-needed time to reflect on ourselves, our communities and the environment. This opinion piece looks into the growing importance of practising mindfulness in travel experiences and how it would benefit service providers, the community and the environment, especially at a time the travel industry is navigating its way towards normalcy.
