Abstract

Abstract This article briefly contextualizes and then outlines what I am referring to as ‘Mindful Authentic Movement’. Drawing from body-oriented psychotherapy and Authentic Movement, this work seeks to establish a clear and practical tool for working with free and authentic expression of the self. I argue that expressions from, and deep contact with, the core self for a client or a group of individuals can be facilitated by a set of pedagogical rules aimed at suspending or even transforming characterological defence systems that might impede true self expression. Reich’s ‘Character Analysis’ and ‘Mindfulness’ as a state of consciousness emerge as key to the process by which transformation is possible.
