After receiving her MSW from NYU, she attended the Columbia University PIP program, observing infants and learning about parent–infant psychotherapy, while also enrolled in child and adolescent psychotherapy studies at NIP and IPTAR. Before entering the field, she was an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Michigan Business School from 1985 to 1993.
