Abstract

The article discusses the benefits of contemplative practices, such as meditation, for the mind and body. Topics include a brief overview of the impetus for the creation of the Mind & Life Institute, based on dialogue about science and Buddhism by the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, the effectiveness of meditation in treating psychological and physical disorders, what meditation is, and findings from neuroscience studies that coincide with the discovery of meditation's benefits.
