Abstract

[My first master in critical thought] Olle Svenning befriended Goran Therborn in Lund in the 1960s as radical undergraduates of the same age and his article depicts Therborn’s tense relationship with Swedish social democracy. From the young Therborn’s brief membership in the Social democratic student club in Lund and the publication of his co-authored book En ny vanster (“A New Left”, 1966), over Therborn’s and the “new left’s” affiliation with the reformed left party of C.H. Hermansson, to Therborn’s recent analysis, now as an established academic, of the “social democratic century” in hindsight and the political tasks of the new century in Ojamlikhet dodar (2016, originally The Killing Fields of Inequality 2013). Svenning finds hope in the fact that Therborn to an increasing extent is invited to present his theories to social democratic associations. Publication history: Published original.
