Abstract

This paper proposes a MIMO-OFDM receiver with a modified Electronically Steerable Passive Array Radiator (ESPAR) antenna. MIMO-OFDM receiver with ESPAR antenna can improve the bit error rate performance and obtains additional diversity gain without increasing the number of Radio Frequency (RF) front-end circuits. However, the conventional ESPAR-antenna assisted MIMO-OFDM receiver only considers a simplified model of the received signal of the ESPAR antenna. The proposed MIMO-OFDM receiver with a modified ESPAR antenna makes efficient use of positive and negative frequency shifted components of the received signal generated by ESPAR antenna with periodically changed directivity. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can further improve the bit error rate performance of the system.
