Abstract
XMANY OF US HERE know Milton Babbitt in several ways, some of which are being celebrated today. Milton Babbitt as songwriter for the American musical theater is perhaps a lesser known figure, but one who is nevertheless remarkable-which is saying quite a lot, since the individual in question is nothing if not remarkable. My talk this morning will deal with three of the songs he composed in the musical theater idiom, specifically, the Three Theatrical Songs, published by C. F. Peters in 1981.
