Abstract

Although there have been extensive studies of the nutritional worth of milling by-products produced in the United States there is little information concerning similar materials of Canadian origin. The present report concerns an examination of such feeding stuffs, particular attention being given to available energy content.Milling wheat, consisting of 85% No. 2, 13% No. 3 and 2% No. 4 Northern, which originated in Western Canada was followed through the milling process in order that samples of the by-products as well as the original grain might be obtained. Samples of Nos. 1 and 2 wheat screenings were also studied.The wheat and wheat screenings were ground prior to inclusion in the test rations which consisted of 50 parts of test material and 50 parts of a basal diet (Sibbald et al., 1962) containing 32.6% of protein.
