Abstract

A wideband high gain printed ridge gap magneto-electric (ME) antenna with surface mounted conical horn for millimeter-wave applications is presented in this paper. Printed ridge gap waveguide (PRGW) technology is adopted to achieve a low-profile feeding structure to excite the dipole backed by a rectangular cavity. As a gain enhancing technique, a surface mounted conical horn, made from a very thin copper sheet is placed over the ME dipole antenna to achieve a realized gain of more than 15.3 dB. The proposed design exhibits a bandwidth of 7.5 GHz starting from 26.5 GHz up to 34 GHz. The proposed antenna is considered as a good candidate for millimeter-wave applications such as the future sixth generation (6G) of cellular communications.
