Abstract
In this paper, a wideband circularly-polarized (CP) end-fire antenna fed by a single-layer substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is proposed for millimeter-wave multiple-beam application. Two orthogonal electric fields radiate from the dipole and the open SIW respectively. Good CP performance can be obtained by properly tuning the offset of the dipole and the dimensions of the notches. A –10 dB impedance bandwidth from 54.5 GHz to 70.5 GHz (25.6%) and a 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth from 57 GHz to 94 GHz (49%) can be achieved. Moreover, the 3 dB AR beamwidth is ranging within 170°~214° in xoz-plane from 58 GHz to 67 GHz. Based on this, a multibeam antenna array fed by the Butter matrix is designed and fabricated to verify the scanning performance of the developed antenna element. Wide beam coverage within a wide frequency band can be achieved with good AR performance at the beam direction.
