Abstract

A millimeter-wave (MMW) electromagnetic band-gap (EBG)-based dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) array with reduced mutual coupling is presented. For this purpose, a new compact MMW electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure is designed. The stopband characteristics of the proposed EBG structure are investigated. The performance of two-element cylindrical DRA array incorporating the developed EBG structure is then evaluated with and without the EBG structure. Results show a significant in the mutual coupling when the EBG structure is inserted between the array elements. With these characteristics, this antenna array can be used in MMW wireless communication systems.
