Abstract

This paper describes the advances made in developing solid-state millimeter-wave power sources using integrated circuit technology. Use of MIC drastically reduces the fabrication costs due to less stringent machining tolerances. Packaged Gunn diodes and tuning varactor diodes are employed. Analysis of equivalent circuit together with impedance transformation provides the insight into optimizing the output power and the tuning bandwidths of Gunn VCOs. The circuit configurations that have been used in developing the signal sources up to W-band frequency ranges have been described.
