Abstract

A monopole antenna equipped with a 30 mmØ semi-spherical silicon lens, which suppresses the diffusion of millimeter waves, was applied to underfilm corrosion imaging. Using the lens antenna, reflection properties of γ-FeOOH tablets were investigated at 33.1 GHz. The waveforms of S11 along the stand-off direction showed a mm-order delay in the presence of the tablet. The shift corresponding to delay of the reflected waves was confirmed to be precise, compared to the waveforms obtained using an open-ended waveguide. The waveforms were also measured for an accelerated aging sample with the stand-off distance of 1–2 cm. Clear delays were confirmed, successfully realizing a corrosion map under the coatings.
