Abstract

Remembrance days, ceremonies and celebrations have been organized in many societies throughout the history. The nation states and societies that emerged with the French Revolution were tried to unite around a single national identity. In this context, new symbols have been created to create a nation. Undoubtedly, National Holidays are at the top of these. Because National Holidays are the days that enable the people to unite around common values. Turkish Nation that complete victory under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk founded Turkey after the National Struggle, the name of the new state regime in 1923, putting Republic has crowned this successful process. A law was enacted in 1925 to commemorate this important day every year, thereby declaring the National Day on 29 October. The subject of this study consists of the Republic Day celebrations held in Kirsehir. With the declaration of the Republic, only the years with the certificate in the Republic Archive could be examined from the celebrations held in Kirsehir. In this context, information was given about how the Republic Day ceremonies were made in Kirsehir in 1939, 1940, 1941, 1944 and 1945, what preparations were made, who participated in these ceremonies and the content of the ceremonies. Important preparations were made for the Republic Day ceremonies in Kirsehir. The main streets of the city are decorated and houses and offices are equipped with flags throughout. During the ceremonies that continued for three days with the broad participation of the people, separate programs were organized during the day and night.
