Abstract

Introduction: Suspecting an underlying brain tumor appears to be a straightforward diagnosis in a child presenting with acute ataxia and ophthalmoplegia. However, Miller-Fisher syndrome (MFS) – a cranial nerve variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome characterized by ophthalmoplegia, areflexia and ataxia – can cause the same symptoms and should therefore be considered in the differential diagnosis.
