Abstract

Three big and potentially world-changing events occurred in the past three years: Covid-19, US withdrawal from Afghanistan, and Russian invasion in Ukraine. Are they a call for the humankind to become more serious and responsible, or an opportunity to indulge in the pleasure of blaming reality for not being what it should be? The nature of all three of these events is obscure – especially, it seems, war in Ukraine. It contains elements and parameters that are hard to discern: is it a proxy war, a hidden civil war, a new “Peloponnesian War”, a reasonless and unprovoked aggression without real causes, or something else? Answers to these questions will in part depend on how it ends, and that seems to be utterly unpredictable as of now.
