Abstract

One of the main tasks of foreign policy during the reign of Ivan the Terrible was the struggle against raids by the Crimean and Kazan Tatars, who constantly ravaged them bordering on the outskirts of the Russian Empire and took in captivity a large number of the Russian population. But in the time of Ivan the Terrible reign, the Moscow government was able to refract the tide in their favor. In 1552 Kazan Kingdom was conquered , and since the mid 50-ies of the XVI century by order of the Moscow government the Tsar’s troops began to conduct attacking operations in the Crimean Khanate. These campaigns of the Tsar's troops are widely reflected in the Moscow Chronicles. In this article we study the Moscow vaults, with the aim of identifying information about the campaigns of the 50-ies of the XVI century, their goals and results, the perception in the national consciousness.
