Research Article| October 01 2017 Militants and Migrants: A New Model for the Study of International Labor Activism, Nation-building, and Identity Fraser Ottanelli Fraser Ottanelli Fraser Ottanelli is Professor of History at the University of South Florida. His research concentrates on twentieth-century history with a focus on radical movements, migration, and ethnic history. He has authored and co-authored several books along with many articles and essays, including The Communist Party of the United States: From the Depression to World War II (Rutgers University Press, 1991); (with Donna Gabaccia) Italian Workers of the World: Labor Migration and the Formation of Multiethnic States (University of Illinois Press, 2001); (with Peter N. Carroll) Letters from the Spanish Civil War: A U.S. Volunteer Writes Home (Kent State University Press, 2013); (with Elizabeth S. Bird) The Performance of Memory as Transitional Justice (2015); (with Elizabeth S. Bird) The Asaba Massacre: Trauma, Memory, and the Nigerian Civil War (Cambridge University Press, 2017); and (with Nunzio Pernicone) “With Dynamite and Dagger”: Anarchist Violence in Fin-de-siècle Europe (University of Illinois Press, forthcoming). He is the recipient of research grants from several sources including the Isabel Johnson Hiss Fund, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the Giovanni Agnelli Foundation.
