Abstract

I?m very pleased that Miles Copeland?s contributions to solid-state electronics have been recognized and that he has been awarded the 2016 IEEE Donald O. Pederson Award in Solid-State Circuits by the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society. I?m honored to be able to add my own reflections about this great researcher and academic. I think one of the keys to Miles?s success, in addition to his intellectual prowess, is his charisma. Maybe it was from his years as a pilot in the Canadian armed forces (he was a member of the Mach-Busters Club) or from being a charge-coupled device (CCD) and metal?oxide semiconductor (MOS) circuit pioneer. I?m not sure, but the one thing I am sure of is that people are drawn to Miles, including students, staff, and professionals. The dedication of his students and support from professionals in industry paved the way for many of the accomplishments he achieved during his career.
