Abstract

This paper presents corrosion rate results for uncoated steel immersed in chloride, sulphate, and nitrate aqueous electrolyte solutions. These results are compared with underfilm corrosion rates for steel contaminated with chlorides, sulphates, and nitrates, and coated with two types of clear coatings of 15, 40, and 80 µm dry film thickness and exposed to a condensing humidity test. Corrosion rates were determined gravimetrically. The variables, which most influence steel corrosion processes in the two situations, were determined.
