Abstract

Approximately half of cases of neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) are graded as mild. These infants are expected to have normal neurological prognosis and, have neither been subject to hypothermia treatment nor the extensive follow-up as cases with moderate to severe HIE. Recent studies suggest that the outcome after mild HIE might not be as favorable as previously presumed, and more knowledge is needed. The objective of this study was to investigate important adverse outcomes at up to seven years of age in infants with mild neonatal HIE.
