Abstract

Purpose: This study investigated plasma protein, inflammatory, muscle discomfort and exercise performance responses to multi-day mild electro-stimulation treatment (MEST) following a single bout of eccentrically biased exercise. It was hypothesised that treatment would accelerate recovery via an acute increase in lymphatic drainage and blood flow. Methods: Sixteen healthy volunteers (11 M and 5 F) performed leg strength exercise (Cybex Norm 770), provided blood samples (creatine kinase (CK); c-reactive protein (CRP)) and feedback on muscle pain pre- and for 7 days following 45min of bench stepping (BS).
