Migration as a Determinant of the Socio-Economic Crisis of Europe in the Twentieth Century

Abstract

Migration to Europe is not a new phenomenon, but its roots date back to the 1960s and 1970s, when, primarily for economic reasons – the lack of sufficient workforce – the Old Continent opened up to immigrants from outside. This article is a geopolitical polemic showing the complex and controversial issue of the regression of security in the global dimension, with an emphasis on international and transnational issues, pointing to the ongoing transformation of the existing political, social, axiological, and cultural order into new complex configurations, somewhat abstracting from tradition and the existing cultural code. The main intention and purpose of this paper are to present the complex problem of the specificity of security in the European and community dimension, pointing to the processes and phenomena changing the architecture of the world order, taking into account the international, transnational and migration contexts.
