Abstract

Alpha scintillation and gamma-ray spectrometry were used to measure 226Ra and 228Ra in underground and surface waters, suspended solids and bottom sediments from two areas situated at Minas Gerais State, Brazil, i.e. the Morro do Ferro, located at the Pocos de Caldas alkaline massif, Pocos de Caldas city and at the Barreiro de Araxa, situated at Araxa city. The results allowed calculate the distribution coefficient (Kd) for 226Ra and 228Ra in these areas. The Kd values for 226Ra and 228Ra in underground and surface waters from Morro do Ferro and Barreiro varied too much, in general, between 10-3g/cm3 and 10-6g/cm3.
