Abstract

This paper aims to analyze recent Venezuelan migrations to Brazil, highlighting the participation of the Brazilian state in the handling of this flow. The research is based on a periodization that distinguishes three main moments of this phenomenon, each of which has specific socio-demographic characteristics. The metamorphosis of these migratory processes to the country expresses important transformations in the governance of this population, presents different categorizations institutionally established in the normative framework of these people, while establishing a research agenda on gender and generational inequalities transversal to this process. In methodological terms, three sources of information based on administrative records from the Brazilian Federal Police, the Comite Nacional para Refugiados (National Committee for Refugees), and the Organizacao Internacional para as Migracoes (International Organization for Migration) are employed. The use of these data, even in the face of potential limitations, corroborates the reconstruction of the recent Venezuelan migratory flows to Brazil as a heterogeneous process, permeated by selectivities and demographically differentiated forms of regulation.
