Abstract
The Mie scattering calculations are usually performed for non-absorbing spherical particles embedded in a non-absorbing medium. We consider a case of an absorbing sphere placed in an absorbing medium. We find, by numerical calculation for large size parameter of the order of 10 4, that the scattering efficiency of a spherical particle in an absorbing medium approaches the reflectance of a plane surface at perpendicular incidence.
