Abstract
The concept of professionalism raises the issue of accountability, at a time when litigation concerning braindamaged babies often recieves great publicity. This article explores clinical midwives' attitudes to this situation. The results of a smallscale survey show a broad acceptance of the importance of litigation, but varying attitudes to aspects of clinical practice cited in recent court cases.
