Abstract
In Wales, Schools/Departments of Nursing and Midwifery Education have been fully integrated into higher education since Spring 1996. Pre-registration midwifery preparation is currently provided by four institutions, namely University of Wales Bangor, University of Wales Swansea, University of Wales College of Medicine and the ‘new’ University of Glamorgan. The midwifery teaching departments in the latter two share provision of a common course. All midwifery preparation courses in Wales are provided at diploma level, with successful students being awarded a joint Welsh National Board (WNB)AJniversity of Wales Higher Education Diploma in Midwifery.
