Abstract

In the last issue of the journal it was reported that out of 141 ‘Nurse’ Consultant posts agreed by health regions in England 11 were Midwife Consultant posts. It is hoped that appointments will be made in the next few months. The role encompasses four key areas as specified in the Health Circular distributed in 1999, expert practice, professional leadership, education and development, practice and service development. Below we give the main features of four of the posts. The next issue will give details of others.
