Abstract

Policies to strengthen water resource development in the midwestern United States are summarized in a two‐volume report by the Northeast‐Midwest Congressional Coalition. ‘Water Resource Priorities for the Midwest’ examines regional implications of hazardous waste disposal, repair of urban water systems, reauthorization of the Clean Water Act, hydroelectric power, and port facilities. Water quality, water supply, and energy and transportation issues are also addressed.The project study area encompasses water resources in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin and generally conforms to the U.S. Water Resources Council's Great Lakes, Ohio, and Upper Mississippi regions.
