Abstract

Introduction: esophageal cancer is uncommon, metastasizes early, severe, surgical results need to be evaluated.
 Objectives: Characteristics of thoracic esophageal cancer. Midterm results of surgery by orringer method of esophageal cancer (03 years).
 Subjects and Methods: retrospectively, surgery by orringer method of esophageal cancer at Thong Nhat hospital from January 2018 to January 2023.[1]
 Results: 36 cases, male 94.5%, age 68.2 years, BMI < 18.5 accounted for 75%, Hypertension rate is 77.7%. Stage by TNM of Cancer is grade III (52 ,8%). Good surgical result is 52.7%, average 30.5%, no deaths due to surgery, some complications were recorded. Overall survival time for 01-year is 83.3%.
 Conclusions: Elderly people have more esophageal cancer than young people, mainly men. Skinny, underweight is predominant, late stage. Results of surgical treatment is acceptable. The prominent annual follow-up complications are anastomosis and cachexia. Total survival time of 1 year is 83.3%, decreasing rapidly in the following years.
