Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to contend that middle-level managers (MMs) are an untapped resource in speech-language pathology to champion the implementation of evidence-based practices in routine clinical settings. Relevant literature is presented related to middle-level managers and their role in closing the research-to-practice gap. We additionally describe empirical examples from related fields and clinical examples from individuals who are conducting this work now in speech-language pathology. Conclusions: Although more research is needed, there is growing evidence that MMs have responsibilities beyond traditional supervisory roles. We argue that they may be key personnel to closing the research-to-practice gap by championing the implementation of evidence-based practice and, as such, we recommend further research and exploration of this innovative area.
