Abstract

Both American and Middle Eastern national interests and values can be recognized with the formation of a Palestinian state. The rhetoric of certain American Evangelical leaders has fostered a stereotype of a unified Evangelical stand against a two-state solution. From a political standpoint, a two-state solution benefits the U.S., because the present conflict is a prime source of anti-Americanism and because its resolution would be an achievement through which the U.S. could recapture some of itsregional credibility. Evangelical leaders should remind America of its commitment touniversal social justice, freedom, and democracy. Unbiased politics must govern thistenuous situation.
