Abstract

Summary This article represents a very personal view of problems following a car bomb explosion. The author has identified some key issues and made some recommendations on how the care system could respond more fully to this type of incident. The need for increased sensitivity of officialdom and the practicalities associated with coping and clearing after widespread devastation, are two such issues. The need for on-going support and counselling was supported and the suggestion of the possibility of the establishment of ‘disaster teams’ to cope with major incidents. Hopefully this paper may permit procedures to be rethought and possibly change.
